Welcome by the Director

Welcome to the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies. Our Centre has been set up in the Spring of 2007 as an exciting new interdisciplinary research centre of the humanities and social sciences at the Catholic University Leuven. Our aim is to make high-quality and innovative contributions to the study of globalization, governance processes and multilateralism in their multifaceted appearances, with the aspiration to become one of the centres of excellence in Europe and in the world on these issues.

Our Centre is a cooperative venture between a number of Leuven research groups that have become active in interdisciplinary research over the past years in one or more of the four focus areas of the Centre: trade and sustainable development; peace and security; human rights, democracy and rule of law; and the European Union and global multilateral governance. We share a strong commitment to working closely together with a view to enhancing interdisciplinary and high-level academic research, in a spirit of co-ownership and programmatic coherence.

In line with our University’s mission statement, the Centre is internationally oriented and keen to work together with other research centres and institutes in Europe and throughout the world.
