Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies

The Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies is an interdisciplinary research centre of the Humanities and Social Sciences. It carries out and supports interdisciplinary research on topics related to globalization, governance processes and multilateralism, with a particular focus on the following areas, taking the many cross-cutting issues into account : (i) trade and sustainable development, (ii) peace and security, (iii) human rights, democracy and rule of law, (iv) the European Union and global multilateral governance, (v) non-state actors and global governance and (vi) space governance. The Centre hosts more than 60 researchers and is governed by a Board. The distinguished International Advisory Board provides intellectual and strategic guidance to the Centre.

K.U.Leuven Centre of Excellence

In June 2010, the Centre has been recognized as K.U.Leuven Centre of Excellence. Since then, it has launched a 7-year research programme on ‘Global Governance and Democratic Government’ (2010-2017), which aims at the construction of a new paradigm for democratic global governance.
